Dr. Sean Sumsion
Board-eligible ophthalmologist Sean Sumsion, MD joined Riverside EyeCare Professionals in 2017 and has played a vital role in extending more vision and eye care services to patients in the Redding area. Dr. Sumsion performs a broad range of procedures to improve vision—including LASIK, cataract surgery, and PRK—and provides treatment for a variety of ocular diseases and disorders. While he is originally from Redding, Dr. Sumsion obtained a wealth of advanced training, experience, and expertise during his years of study throughout the western states. At Brigham Young University, he earned his degree in microbiology (magna cum laude) and went on to receive his medical degree from University of California, Irvine in 2012. After medical school, he completed an internship in internal medicine, followed by an ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Science Center in San Antonio. During his residency, Dr. Sumsion was named resident of the year (2016), served as resident physician, worked as an associate clinical professor, and contributed to many peer-reviewed articles. A fluent Spanish-speaker, Dr. Sumsion has previously traveled to Honduras on a Pediatric Ophthalmology Medical Mission Trip and spent two years in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
